Job Summary 

The Director of Early Childhood Education at Creative Minds International (CMI) is responsible for building the capacity of educational staff to promote positive conditions for teaching and learning. The director will have managerial and decision making power to address day-to-day academic and operational school issues and will be responsible for ensuring CMI’s mission and goals are achieved. The Director will be part of the Instructional Leadership Team that guides and manages the whole school and community.  While Pre-Kindergarten- 1st grade are the focus of this role, collaboration with multiple departments and grades is necessary to ensure consistency of practice and use of resources to work continuously to improve the skills and knowledge base of school staff. Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, the Director performs most work independently and performance is evaluated by results. 

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Implementing the CMI Model which balances a whole-child approach employing the Fieldwork Education International curriculum that focuses on critical skill development, all within an inclusion model; 
  • Offering frequent, targeted feedback to teachers on their instructional practice through formal and informal observations and following through to ensure feedback is implemented; 
  • Leading all educators on your team in the implementation of the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC); 
  • Supporting teachers with using Teaching Strategies GOLD.
  • Supporting teachers with the planning and implementation of Common Core aligned curriculum in ELA and Math; 
  • Supporting teachers with differentiating their instruction for ALL learners; 
  • Ensuring that all classrooms offer students an inviting, exciting, innovative, creative, global, learning environment;
  • Leading teachers through data-driven analyses of student performance to inform re-teaching;
  • Collaborating closely with the Instructional Leadership Team Members to drive data-based decision making for the school community; 
  • Holding all staff to high expectations of accountability for their performance while also raising educators’ voices school-wide in the decision making process; 
  • Overseeing the planning and implementation of CMI’s Summer Institute and ongoing professional development;
  • Overseeing the implementation of activities to enrich learning such as field trips, performances, and guest speakers;
  • Establishing positive communications and relationships with colleagues, students, families, and the community which reflect recognition of and respect for every individual; 
  • Sensitively and proactively problem-solving challenges related to student academic and/or social/emotional development;
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications 

  • Experience with (or the willingness to actively learn about) our whole-child approach and unique curriculum;
  • Comfort and competence in analyzing data and making decisions based on data; 
  • Strong supervisory skills including but not limited to setting clear expectations, participating  in constructive conflict; and ensuring professionalism on team; 
  • Have a track record of being a team player and community minded;
  • Ability to self-direct and prioritize among competing goals, exhibit flexibility, and drive results; 
  • Adept at thinking strategically, translating plans into action, and exhibiting excellent judgment; 
  • Commitment to meeting the needs of a diverse student population; 
  • Commitment to the success of each student and ability to form positive relationships with ALL students;

Education/License and Experience: 

  • Have a Master’s degree in Education and certification in Education; 
  • Five or more years of successful classroom teaching experience in an urban school setting as a teacher; 
  • Previous school leadership experience is preferred - either in the US or internationally;
  • Ability to communicate in languages other than English is useful (not necessary but desirable).
